Istanbul stretches across two continents, Europe and Asia, separated by the Bosphorus Strait. Its rich history is marked by its time as the capital of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires, which has left an indelible mark on its architecture, culture, and identity. Constantinople, as it was known during the Roman and Byzantine eras, was renowned for its strategic location and monumental buildings like the Hagia Sophia.
TOPKAPI PALACE
I visited Topkapi Palace in 2023, a historic palace that once served as the residence of Ottoman Sultans for nearly 400 years. Built following the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople, this architectural marvel showcases a series of pavilions, audience halls, the famous Harem, and lush gardens. It houses significant relics, including items associated with the Prophet Muhammad, and displays a vast collection of jewels and artworks in its Imperial Treasury. During my visit, I captured amazing patterns and colorful objects, each embodying the rich artistic heritage of the Ottoman era. These images, showcasing intricate designs and vibrant colors, will be a source of inspiration and reference in my future art projects. Now functioning as a museum and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Topkapi Palace is a treasure trove of artistic inspiration and a testament to the Ottoman Empire's abundant lifestyle and cultural legacy.
